FAQs

1. How much does it cost to dance at Steps Ahead?

A. Tuition is invoiced per term, with three months in each term. A 30 min class per week costs $150 and a 45min class $170 per term.

Tuition is charged on a sliding scale according to the number of classes taken. One month’s notice is required for departing dancers.

2. Is there a registration fee?

A. Yes. $40 per new family

3. Is there a performance?

A. Yes. All Steps Students perform in our year-end production (last weekend in May or first weekend in June)

4. What costs are associated with the performance?

A. A costume ranging from $50 – $120, Performance Fee (rehearsal and tech) $25, DanceBug (video production and hosting) $35. Fees are subject to change.

5. Can I try a class out before registering?

A. As many of our classes fill quickly (and have waitlists) we strongly suggest you register, pay the $30 registration fee, and come to the first lesson in September. If you return, simply pay your 1st term invoice. If not, let us know and we will drop you from the class/es.

6. Can I watch my dancer in class?

A. No. Studio space is a premium and dancers learn far more when focused on the teacher. That being said, we work with parents of younger dancers to aid them during the year’s first weeks. Steps Ahead offer a Zoom Viewing Day for parents each term.

7. How do Steps Ahead communicate with parents?

A. Email first, but we can always chat with you as needed.

8. How do I pay my tuition and account charges?

A. E-transfer is preferred, however, we can accept debit at the studio, credit at the studio, or over the phone (with a 2.5% surcharge) cheques/cash with prior arrangement. Please, make your security question “My dancer’s first name”.

9. Does my dancer have to take exams?

A. Not at all. Although we prepare dancers for both the Royal Academy of Dance (Classical), Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance (Modern, Tap and Jazz), and Acrobatic Arts (Acro) exams, it is not necessary to enter. Decisions on examination entry are made after extensive training and discussion with parents.
