Dress Code – Ballet

FIRST STEPS, PRE-PRIMARY & PRIMARY

  • or Solid Colour Tee and Fitted Shorts (plain colours please – no graphics)
  • Legs ballet pink or white socks (tights acceptable in the cooler months)
  • Shoes pink, black or white ballet shoes (canvas or leather)
  • Beginner Tap Shoes (any colour) for Pre-Prim and Primary levels
  • Wrap Sweaters ideal when the temperatures drop

WARM-UP GEAR
  • Wrap Sweaters pastel shades to match ballet dress for younger dancer
  • Wrap Sweaters in black from Grade 1 and up.
  • Often available on Amazon

GRADES 1, 2 & 3
  • Bodysuit MONDOR – 3535 – Short Sleeve Paradise Blue (PR) Body Suit
  • or White Solid Tee and Black or Navy fitted Shorts
  • Legs ballet pink or white socks OR pink ballet tights
  • Shoes pink (or white or black) ballet shoes (canvas or leather)
  • Skirt black character skirt with ribbons Grade 3 only (contact the studio for advise)
  • Shoes Black low heel canvas character shoes Grade 3 only (Cuban heel acceptable)
  • Black Wrap Sweater for cooler temperatures

CHARACTER SKIRTS & SHOES:
Dancers in Grade 3 & Up require a character skirt and character shoes. For the 2026/27 season those in Grade 2 do not require character items.

GRADES 4 & 5
  • Leotard Bloch CL4265 Lavender (Alice)
  • Legs ballet pink convertible tights
  • Skirts Character Skirt as previous grades (Paradise blue ribbons remain)
  • Skirt – Mondor 16100 Black Wrap Skirt or similar
  • Shoes pink ballet shoes (canvas preferred)
  • Shoes Black canvas Cuban heel character shoes

GRADES 6, 7, 8
  • Bodysuit Bloch L4265 (Ava) Aubergine
  • Skirt – Mondor 16100 Black Wrap Skirt or similar
  • Legs ballet pink convertible tights
  • Skirts Character Skirt as previous grades (Paradise blue ribbons remain)
  • Shoes pink canvas split-sole ballet slippers (clean canvas split-soles required for any performance)
  • Shoes Black canvas Cuban heel character shoes

INTERMEDIATE FOUNDATION, INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED BALLET
  • Bodysuit any brand black (for exams – pinch front fine but NO criss-cross or ‘busy’ straps, extremely low back, lace, mesh, velvet, etc. May wear these styles for class only)
  • Legs ballet pink convertible tights
  • Skirt –Mondor 16100 Black Wrap Skirt
  • Shoes – canvas or leather shoes – ribbons may be required for exams
  • Pointe Shoes – pointe shoes should be purchased at the teachers’ request.

SR. OPEN BALLET and POINTE
  • Bodysuit any colour brand or style
  • Legs ballet pink convertible tights
  • Skirt any colour sheer ballet skirt optional but not required
  • Shoes pink canvas or leather shoes OR old pointe converted to soft blocks
  • Pointe Shoes – should only be purchased at teachers’ request. Students’ choice of ribbon, elastic & padding.
OPTIONAL GENDER NEUTRAL CLOTHING FOR BALLET
  • Top fitted t-shirt/tank top/leotard
  • Legs black footless tights worn over bodysuit or Navy or Black leggings worn with fitted t-shirt
  • Shoes black or white ballet shoes

Ballet slippers should fit well, to provide proper support so that the use of the foot can be clearly seen. A new pair might need to be purchased during the year if your child’s feet grow more than half a size. Children younger than 6 years old could have a little ‘growing room’ when purchasing shoes.

Streetwear is not permitted as warm-up items. Any colour ballet wrap-sweater permitted. Dance warm-ups are perfectly acceptable at all levels. Large jewlery is not to be worn to class.

Dress Code – Other Genres

MODERN, CONTEMPORARY, ACRO, TAP, STAGE, JAZZ
  • Body -Any colour leotard
  • Please note Acro dancers are permitted to wear biketard if preferred
  • Legs – Black convertible or footless tights, leggings (tight fitting bike shorts for younger dancers only)
  • Shoes as required for genre – Beige jazz Shoes for Jazz, Any colour Tap shoes for tap. Modern/Contemporary and Acro – no shoes required, however Capezio dance socks (beige) are often advised.

STREET DANCE (Hip Hop)
  • Body – Loose fitted long or short sleeved tees permitted (graphics to be appropriate)
  • Legs – Sweats, active pants or leggings (jeans or ripped clothing not to be worn)
  • Shoes Jr/Inter Hip Hop- NON-MARKING black runners with black soles. Dancers will not be permitted to wear sneakers that mark the dance floor. Dancers will not be permitted to wear shoes that have been worn outside.
  • Shoes SR Hip Hop – TBA (please wear what you had last season at first)
