Why Steps Ahead Dance?

Steps Ahead Dance are celebrating their 25th year in the beautiful Cowichan Valley. Located south of Duncan we are well situated to accommodate dancers from Duncan, Cobble Hill, Cowichan Bay, Shawnigan Lake and Mill Bay.

We are inclusive, caring and inspiring.

A full complement of classes is available to dancers age 3yr and up including Ballet, Modern Contemporary, Pointe, Tap, Jazz, Street, Acrobatic Arts, Stage, Conditioning, Pre-School Dance and more. School principal, Lorraine Blake (ISTD Fellow and Examiner) says “we inspire dancers to reach their goals, strengthen techniques and develop strong performance skills, confidence and artistry.” Although syllabus or examination classes are not mandatory the ISTD and RAD syllabi help create the foundations necessary to produce strong, confident, artistic dancers and SAPG (Steps Ahead Performance Group) is inclusive, yet challenging for those over 8 years who looking for more performance opportunities.

The team at this family-oriented and friendly school include four other qualified teachers (including two previous Steps Ahead Dance graduates) along with an early learning and a high school dance expert.

Steps Ahead Dance students have gone on to study at The Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, National Ballet School of Canada, Interlochen Arts Academy, American Musical and Dramatic Academy, UCLA, and more.

Artistic Director, Lorraine Blake (RAD FISTD) shares a lifelong love to dance with her students. Her 35 years of experience and accolades, including Duncan Chamber of Commerce Black Tie Award winner (Art in Business, 2018) and status as a Modern and Tap examiner for the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance since 1999 ensure your dancer will be in the best of hands.
