For over 25 years, Steps Ahead Dance has provided quality dance education in the Cowichan Valley. Welcoming dancers from Mill Bay, Duncan, Cobble Hill, Cowichan Bay, Shawnigan Lake and surrounding communities, we are proud to offer an inclusive, caring and inspiring environment where dancers can grow in confidence, technique and artistry.

Steps Ahead Dance offers a wide range of classes for dancers ages 3+, including Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary, Acro, Street and Stage. Dancers can enjoy recreational classes or pursue more intensive training through our ISTD and RAD syllabus work and Steps Ahead Performance Group (SAPG). Whatever their goals, our focus remains the same: developing strong technique, confidence, artistry and a genuine love of dance.

Our experienced teaching team brings together qualified dance educators, Steps Ahead graduates and specialists who share a commitment to creating a welcoming, encouraging and professional environment for every dancer.

Steps Ahead Dance graduates have continued their training at respected institutions including Canada’s National Ballet School, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, LAMDA in London, Interlochen Arts Academy, the American Musical and Dramatic Academy and UCLA. We are incredibly proud to see our dancers carry their training, confidence and love of the arts into the next chapter of their lives.

Artistic Director Lorraine Blake brings decades of teaching experience and a lifelong love of dance to Steps Ahead. An ISTD Fellow and international examiner in Modern Theatre and Tap, Lorraine has been examining for the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing since 1999. Her commitment to excellent training, alongside a caring and encouraging approach, continues to shape the philosophy of Steps Ahead Dance.
